Media Visits

Tourism NSW runs a media visits program that targets travel and lifestyle media nationally and internationally.

The program is based on the principle that journalists produce motivating and detailed coverage on a destination after actually experiencing the destination or product first hand. Their personal experience has proven to have a greater impact on the Australian and global travelling public.

Internationally, the media visits program encompasses:

  • The Visiting Journalist Program - a cooperation between the State Tourist Organisations and Tourism Australia, to provide a integrated approach to global marketing; and
  • The International Media Visits Program - a single state run program, focusing solely on the destination of NSW its many regions. Tourism NSW hosts more than 150 international media visits per year, resulting in more than $80 million worth of publicity for Sydney and the state of New South Wales.

Nationally, the program focuses on broadening the Australian public’s knowledge of Sydney and New South Wales and to encourage visitors to experience the variety of holiday options on offer. We target more than 250 media outlets per year, from a variety of print publications to broadcast media across Australia. This results in more than $30 million in publicity for Sydney and NSW.

Both nationally and internationally, the Media Visits Program integrates with Tourism NSW's overall marketing approach for the state. Both programs are implemented and managed by teams based in Sydney and across the world in key markets such as United States of America, United Kingdom, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore and New Zealand.
