Tourist Signposting Review

The statewide Tourist Signposting Program has been reviewed regularly since its inception in 1990 in order to be responsive to changes over time in the needs of the tourism industry in NSW. The program was last reviewed in 2001.

In November 2004 a review was proposed to update the process and materials to make applying for signage easier. Tourism NSW conducted the review on behalf of the Tourist Attraction Signposting Assessment Committee.

The review sought to develop recommendations to improve signposting in NSW by addressing the needs and expectations of the tourism industry and consumers.

The review assessed the program’s effectiveness, processes, communications and eligibility criteria. It has included two rounds of consultation and research with industry groups on the needs and concerns of tourism operators and organisations in applying for signage.
