Trade Education

Hosted trade visits to Australia: travel agent familiarisations
Tourism NSW has a year-long program of trade “famils” for agents, and other key people in tourism, selling Sydney and NSW. These famils give operators an opportunity to showcase their product and destinations.  Wholesale and retail travel agents have been selected from each international market and a range of famils have been planned for 08/09 to be able to educate these agents on NSW product and destinations.

Familiarisations (Famils) - Trade
Tourism NSW hosts familiarisations (sponsored tours designed for overseas trade buyers of travel product and services) to showcase New South Wales by using the travel experience. The objective is to convert the experience into sales for those products and services involved in the programs.

Familiarisations are developed for product planners, front line travel agents and other key sales staff. These unique opportunities showcase your product and are coordinated and developed by the Famils Coordinator.

A familiarisation is a chance for you to showcase your product first hand to international product planners, front line travel agents and other key sales staff.  This can be in the way of site inspections, meals, tours, etc.  By experiencing the product first hand famils help to sell your product in the market.

All delegates are provided with a post-famil survey to evaluate their experience by individual product. This survey is completed by the agents prior to their departure from Australia. The information is then collated and forwarded to you by the Familisarisations Coordinator in due course.

If you wish to participate in famils, please register your interest including the markets you are interested in hosting with Ian Cameron at ian.cameron@tourism.nsw.gov.au

Aussie Specialist Program: education and familiarisations
The Aussie Specialist Program, operated by Tourism Australia, trains and accredits retail agents who are selling Australia as a destination. Tourism NSW has a NSW module for Aussie Specialists in USA, UK and NZ and plans to roll out such modules for the remaining key markets.  The program includes famil visits to Australian destinations.  Tourism NSW coordinates and hosts the visits to NSW.

Operators can support the Trade Education program by offering to showcase their product to visiting international agents. Look for specific showcasing opportunities as part of the trade visits in each market prospectus.
